The position of coach Ronald Koeman is openly under discussion at FC Barcelona. Enric Masip, an adviser to chairman Joan Laporta, declined to express his support for the coach in an interview on Tuesday.

“I’m not going to say yes or no,” Masip replied in an interview with Spanish broadcaster TV3 when asked if Koeman might be fired.

The coach is under fire after the chanceless defeat to Bayern Munich (0-3) in the Champions League, which was followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Granada on Sunday.

“He has gained the confidence to be the coach of FC Barcelona. But when you see that things don’t work, then it’s normal to doubt. Of course, we are concerned about the results,” said Masip. The former top handball player is considered an important confidant of Laporta.

Koeman has clashed publicly with the Barcelona president twice in recent months. For example, it leaked out that Laporta demands that Barcelona play in a 4-3-3 system, while the coach sometimes opts for 3-5-2.

In addition, the chairman insisted that players like Riqui Puig and Samuel Umtiti get more playing time.
