A Dragon Ball fan helped bust a manga counterfeiter in Japan after he acquired a counterfeit version of the first edition of Dragon Ball .

Dragon Ball is one of the biggest anime series , and its manga helped change the shonen genre in big ways. Akira Toriyama is still overseeing the series after all this time, and with each passing year, Goku’s first appearances in the manga become more valuable.
Now, taking advantage of this high value of manga, counterfeiters try to profit from pirated manga, but one of them ended up facing the wrong fan.

As reported by Asahi Shimbun , a man in Tokyo has been arrested by authorities for allegedly selling a pirated edition of Akira Toriyama’s manga. The report suggests that the online seller tried to sell the debut edition of Dragon Ball from 1984.

They managed to make the sale for around $1,200, but the person who bought the issue was quick to identify it as a fake.
How the fan identified the fake Dragon Ball manga
The report explains that the buyer is a huge Dragon Ball fan and has several rare collectibles . For example, they have multiple issues of the debut issue of Dragon Ball in Weekly Shonen Jump.
The fan who bought the work also had several copies of the debut edition and thus comparing the ones he had with the ones he bought, he was able to easily identify the inconsistencies.
But in addition to the printing errors, there were other grotesque errors in the forgery. The issue was pasted together instead of stapled and the quality of the paper used was all wrong. The price was also very cheap, as copies of the edition are sold for up to US$ 2,000.
After discovering the inconsistencies, the fan contacted the Tokyo authorities, who soon located and arrested the criminal.
