A few months after the first diagnosis, a spokesperson for Sarah confirmed that the duchess was undergoing new treatment.
In a statement sent to US Weekly magazine, a representative said: “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma,” it said.
“Her dermatologist asked for several moles to be removed and analyzed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of them was identified as cancerous,” he explained.

The spokesperson continued: “Clearly another diagnosis so soon after breast cancer treatment has been distressing, but the Duchess remains in good spirits. The Duchess would like to thank all the medical staff who supported her, especially her dermatologist, whose vigilance ensured the disease was detected at the right time.”
“She believes her experience highlights the importance of checking the size, shape, color and texture and the appearance of new spots that could be a sign of melanoma.”
