“Dune 3” has a script that is “almost ready”, according to director Denis Villeneuve

Last Friday (08), fans of “Dune”, starring Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka”) and Zendaya (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “Euphoria”), received an encouraging update from director Denis Villeneuve, responsible for the film based on the work of the same name by Frank Hebert published in 1965 and adapted for the second time in 2021.

Villeneuve also directed its sequel, released in 2022 and with the return of the cast that, in addition to Chalamet and Zendaya, also included Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Sleep), Oscar Isaac (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman). In addition, Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia!), Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction), Charlotte Rampling (The Verdict), Javier Bardem (007 – Skyfall) and Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Enola Holmes 2) are also part of the acting team. .

Good news

In a press conference held last week in South Korea, Villeneuve states that the script for the third film is already ready, but clarifies that he wants to invest in a new project, different from “Dune”, “for the sake of his mental health ”:

“I don't know exactly when I'll return to Arrakis. Maybe I'll take a detour before then, to get away from the Sun for a bit. For the sake of my mental health, maybe I'll make a different film before Dune 3, but the dream is to be able to return one last time for this planet that I love”, he commented. “There is a dream of making an adaptation of Messiah, a third film, which would be the end of Paul Atreides’ journey. It would make perfect sense for me to make this film. The film is being written now, the script is almost finished, but it's not finished, it will take a while,”

The news is encouraging for fans of the work, which has six volumes in total, the first two of which are the bases for the film adaptations directed by Villeneuve.
