After a process that lasted almost seven years, the Manhattan Federal Courtin New York, United States, decided in favor of the British singer Ed Sheeran in the fight for music copyrights “Thinking Out Loud“, released in 2014 and one of the artist's biggest hits. In 2017, the musician's heirs Ed Townsend filed a lawsuit against Sheeran alleging that the musician had stolen the “harmonic progressions and melodic and rhythmic elements“of music”Let's Get It On“, from 1978, a song that Townsend composed for the singer Marvin Gaye.

According to the newspaper New York Postduring a statement this Monday (1), Sheeran even made mashups of the singer's songs van morrisonalso playing the chord sequence he was accused of plagiarizing while singing versions of Morrison's works, such as “Crazy Love” and “Tupelo Honey“.
