Eduardo Paes announces megashow in Copacabana for 2025

Last Friday (27), the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), announced a free megashow on the sands of Copacabana Beach in May 2025. Similar to Madonna, which took place in the same month, this year, the expectation is to welcome a great artist — or perhaps the pop diva, Lady Gaga, to the Celebration May.

In an interview with CBN RioPaes reported that there is a confidentiality agreement that prevents him from telling at the moment, but in January the official announcement comes. “They think the mayor talks too much (…) I heard that people really like Lady Gaga”he said.

When it all started

It is not now that the hearts of little monstersas Gaga fans are known, is beating stronger. At the end of November, the mayor joked by sharing a video of the song's performance “Shallow” at the Oscars with users of X, formerly Twitter. “So you don't think I'm being angry! Everyone in Rio! Those who understand will understand! Signs!”he wrote.

Then, on December 5th, Lauro Jardim's column, from the newspaper The Globeannounced that the artist would perform in Copacabana using the same contract model signed by Madonna. And, recently, the undersecretary of events and institutional relations at the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Castro, stated that it would be among the new features of 2025. “The State Government is investing R$40 million in Carnival (…), after that comes Lady Gaga”he said.

Capital of megashows

After investments in Port Maravalleycalling Rio de Janeiro the capital of innovation, the city is striving to become an influential reference in major musical events. From 2025, the Celebration May takes place every first Saturday in May to consolidate the city as a stage for renowned artists.

In the pilot edition, starring none other than Madonna, the event brought together 1.6 million people on the sands of Copacabana. But the impact goes far beyond the cultural sector. 95% of the hotel network was occupied, the search for airline tickets increased by more than 80%. Restaurants and businesses also benefit from the movement of tourists.

In total, according to city hall projections, the event estimated a return of around R$300 million to the Rio economy. These initiatives strengthen the economy of the city of Rio in the cultural scene and reaffirm its vocation for mega events.
