The singer Elsa Soares would have turned 92 on June 23rd. As a way of paying tribute to the legacy left by the artist who had a career spanning more than sixty years, “In the time of Intolerance” his second posthumous album will be released on that day. The album will feature compositions by Pitty and Rita Lee (1947-2023).
With the exception of “Who said?” composed by Isabela Moraes, nine of the ten tracks are new. Pitty composed “Femininity” for Elza herself and “Queen African” was written by Rita Lee and her husband Roberto de Carvalho. The songs “Courage” and “In the time of intolerance” which gives the title to the production were written by Elza herself.

With musical production by Rafael Ramos, the album features artwork by Pedro Hansen on its cover, based on a photo taken by Pedro Loureiro. The titles of all the songs recorded between 2021 and early 2022 appear on the cover.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Elza Soares released her first EP in 1960, when she was 30 years old. Throughout her career, she flirted with various musical styles such as Samba, Rock, MPB, Jazz and Bossa Nova. Her songs “Se acaso você chegasse” (1960), “Aquarela brasileira” (1974), “Boato” (1961), “Mulata Assanhada” (1965) and “Cadeira vás” (1961) reached the top of the Brazilian charts. In 1999, BBC Radio London elected her as the singer of the Millennium.
Due to natural causes, Elza Soares left us in January 2022, two days after recording “Elza live at Municipal”. The album made by the Brazilian record label Deck was released four months after his death and included the songs “The woman from the end of the world” and “My boy”.
In times of intolerance reflects themes such as blackness and empowerment, social inequality and feminism.
