Eredivisie game opening

The new Eredivisie season starts on Friday 13 August with a match between PhD candidate Go Ahead Eagles and sc Heerenveen, according to the schedule released by the KNVB on Wednesday. PSV plays against AZ and Feyenoord early in the season.

A day after the season opener between Go Ahead and Heerenveen, champion Ajax plays at home against NEC, PSV visit Heracles Almelo and AZ awaits an away game against RKC Waalwijk. On Sunday, Feyenoord plays against Willem II.

In that first round, the KNVB deliberately chose the posters Willem II-Feyenoord and FC Utrecht-Sparta Rotterdam. These games were also scheduled 65 years ago in the first Eredivisie round ever, although FC Utrecht was still called DOS at the time.

In the fourth round of the fixtures (pdf), in mid-September, AZ-PSV is the first top player of the Eredivisie season. A week later, PSV plays Feyenoord in Eindhoven.

For Ajax, the first top game in the tenth round is scheduled, when PSV comes to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The first Classic is on 19 December: Ajax will visit Feyenoord.

  • Round 17, on 19 December: Feyenoord-Ajax

  • Round 24, date nnb: AZ-Feyenoord
  • Round 27, date nnb: Ajax-Feyenoord

Only double topper in round 32

Round 32 is the only round in which two top players are scheduled (AZ-Ajax and Feyenoord-PSV). The dates and times of those games are not yet known exactly, because in connection with European football it will not be determined until after 22 December what rounds 22 to 34 look like in that regard.

In the run-up to the Eredivisie season, Ajax and PSV face each other in the battle for the Johan Cruyff Scale, That meeting is on Saturday 7 August, but can still be pushed to Sunday 8 August if PSV play in the preliminary rounds of the Europa League.

In the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, relegation champions ADO Den Haag and VVV-Venlo start the season with a home game against Jong Ajax and NAC Breda respectively and the also relegated FC Emmen plays against Telstar.

A limited number of spectators are welcome at all games in the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Divisie from the start. The KNVB says it wants to move to full stadiums as soon as possible.
