Eric Abidal caught up by justice?
Suffering from a liver tumor in 2011, former footballer Eric Abidal was transplanted the following year thanks to one of his cousins, we learned at the time. Ten years later, an investigation has looked into this transplant and an element comes to undermine this whole story …
It was a story that shocked football fans at the time but, ten years later, it may well be that things didn’t really go the way we thought. Star of FC Barcelona and indisputable holder in the French team, Eric Abidal was at the top of his form when he was diagnosed with a liver tumor in March 2011.
A news that moves the football planet but, following a first operation, the tumor is removed and everything seems to be going well. Except that after a year, we learn that the player must undergo a liver transplant and things get complicated since he needs a compatible donor.
After waiting a few weeks, one of his cousins named Gérard Armand volunteered and the operation took place in April 2012 and Eric Abidal was finally out of business and he thought he could resume the course of his normal life.
In 2018, the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial revealed conversations between two FC Barcelona executives in which they explained that they had bought the liver illegally.
Today, El Confidencial adds a layer by going further in the revelations. According to them, no evidence of parenthood exists between the footballer and his supposed cousin.

THE ANALYSES CARRIED OUT WOULD BE NEGATIVE
An investigation has been set up to verify the legality of this transplant and according to sources close to the procedure, an examination has been carried out by the National Institute of Toxicology to verify that Gérard Armand is indeed the cousin of Eric Abidal and the conclusions are negative.
A report sent to the Barcelona court that investigates the former player as well as the former president of the club Sandro Rosell and the former director Juanjo Castillo who are suspected of organ trafficking.
This information comes as Eric Abidal is in the middle of a divorce following the revelations of adultery that have erupted in the press.
Following the assault on player Kheira Hamraoui, he was forced to confess to having extramarital affairs with her and his wife Hayet quickly filed for divorce.
Back on television recently, he seems to be holding up, but things could well get even more complicated for the former footballer.
