Erwin Koeman finds new club and becomes a coach in Israel

Erwin Koeman will return to work as manager after a year and a half. The 59-year-old Dutchman signed a contract with Israel’s Beitar Jerusalem on Wednesday.

Koeman has been clubless since the end of 2019 after being sacked as Oman’s head coach. With that country, the coach was stranded in the group stage of the Golf Cup.

He had a contract until mid-2021 before his dismissal. It was his second job as national coach, having previously been in hungary’s group from 2008 to 2010.

Before leaving for Oman, Koeman was interim manager of Fenerbahçe. De Groninger previously served as head coach of RKC Waalwijk, Feyenoord, FC Utrecht and FC Eindhoven and was brother Ronald Koeman’s right-hand man at Southampton and Everton.

“Over the last few weeks we have turned every stone around to find a reputable and experienced coach who matches the way we want to see the team,” Beitar owner Moshe Hogg said on his club’s website. “I wish the new staff every success.”

Beitar Jerusalem finished in fourth place in the Ligat ha’Al, the highest league in Israel, last season.
