Montaigne, who represents Australia in the Eurovision Contest, is not coming to the Netherlands to perform. The singer is not allowed to travel to Europe due to the local corona restrictions.
Montaigne announced this in a video on social media. The song Technicolor does participate in the competition, but is pre-recorded in Australia itself.
All 39 participating countries have already recorded their performance, in case someone falls ill and is unexpectedly unable to perform.
Australia is the first country to report having to make use of this scheme. Executive producer Sietse Bakker previously expressed the hope that it will be a lot easier for European delegations to be able to be present live in Rotterdam. The organization of the Eurovision Song Contest received an exception from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, so that participants can come to the Netherlands despite travel restrictions.
