Experts point out possible cause of plane crash in São Paulo

The crash of a plane in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, in the early hours of this Friday (9) caught the attention of the population and raised questions about the cause of the accident. In an initial analysis, experts point to a phenomenon called stall – in which the craft loses its support – as a hypothesis for the cause of the tragedy.

What is stall and how does it occur?

According to experts, a stall is a situation during flight in which the plane loses its lift and falls sharply. A stall can be caused by the accumulation of ice beneath the aircraft's wings, which causes it to lose its aerodynamic capabilities and fall. In an interview with G1 and Globonews, pilots stated that it is still too early to make statements about the cause of the accident, but explained that this may have been the cause of the accident in Vinhedo.

When a stall occurs, it is still possible to regain control of the aircraft, but this depends on specific conditions, such as the altitude and speed of the plane at the time. This was not the case with Flight 2283, which crashed this morning. In videos shared by internet users, it is possible to see the aircraft's final fall, in a spiral.

The accident

The aircraft, which was carrying 57 passengers and 4 crew members, took off from Guarulhos, in São Paulo, towards the city of Cascavel, in Paraná, but did not reach its destination. The plane, owned by Voepass Linhas Aéreas, crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in the Campinas region, leaving no survivors.

In a statement published on its website, the airline responsible for flight 2283 reported that the aircraft left Cascavel without restrictions and with its systems ready for the trip. Voepass regretted the accident and reinforced its commitment to working with the authorities to find the causes of the crash.

The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) is the agency responsible for investigating the accident. In a press conference held in Brasília, representatives of the institution stated that it is still too early to determine what caused the incident.
