Fan who created HD mod for Resident Evil 4 gets job at Nightdive Studios

Martin’s project, called the Resident Evil 4 HD Project, started in 2014 alongside fellow franchise fan Cris Morales, and was finally released in version 1.0 in February 2022. “I am very happy that finally and for the first time in my life I work in the video game industry,” wrote Martin on the mod’s website. “Thank you Joel for trusting me and thank you Stephen for the opportunity at Nightdive Studios.” Recent games from the developer include remastered ports of Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Forsaken, Doom 64, Quake, Shadow Man Remastered, PowerSlave Exhumed, and both System Shock. The Resident Evil 4 HD mod requires you to have a PC copy of the game on Steam, otherwise it won’t work. It replaces some of the game’s materials with higher visual quality, including textures and objects. For some of the textures, Martin literally traveled to the same locations in Spain and Wales where Capcom took the photos to use as a base for the game’s development. He did this to take new photos in order to be able to create high-resolution materials with the highest possible fidelity. Martin said he “can’t wait” to play the remake of Resident Evil 4, which arrives this Friday (24), noting that the remake will never replace the original because “they are two different experiences”.
