FIFA comes in the run-up to World Cup with its own free streaming service in Qatar, reports the world football association on Tuesday. On FIFA+ you can watch thousands of live and archived football matches, including World Cup matches from the fifties.

Users can also go there for news, information about tournaments and a number of original series and documentaries.

The intention is that by the end of 2022, around 40,000 live matches will be streamed per year, from a hundred affiliated associations from all over the world.

This includes matches in European competitions such as the Danish Superliga, the Polish Ekstraklasa and the Slovak Fortuna Liga. Whether the Dutch Eredivisie will also be available is not yet clear.

At launch, the series Ronaldinho: The Happiest Man in the World, Croatia: Defining a Nation and the first season of Captains were put online.

According to FIFA, it is the first sports federation to come up with such an extensive streaming service. The service is currently available in five languages (English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish), with six more to follow in June.
