FIFA opens disciplinary investigation into Orange opponent,
FIFA opens an investigation following the complaint of the Chilean Football Association about Byron Castillo of Ecuador, opponent of the Orange in the group stage of the World Cup at the end of this year in Qatar. The Chileans claim that the right-back was born in Colombia and that he is three years older than stated.
FIFA confirmed on Wednesday that the association has received the complaint from Chile. The world football association opens a disciplinary investigation into the possible ineligibility of Castillo in eight matches in the qualification for the World Cup.
The Football Association of Ecuador has been invited by FIFA to tell its side of the story to the disciplinary committee.
The Chilean federation wants the results of those eight matches to be canceled and that Ecuador is excluded from the World Cup.
Chile wants to take ecuador’s place at the World Cup. The eighth finalist of the World Cups in 2010 and 2014 finished seventh in the World Cup qualification of South America and thus missed out on a ticket to the world championship for the second time in a row.
“There is countless evidence that the player was born in Colombia, in the city of Tumaco, on July 25, 1995,” the Chilean Football Association wrote last week. “And not on November 10, 1998, in the Ecuadorian city of General Villamil Playas, as stated in his papers.
Serious irregularities in the registration of players are unacceptable, especially when it comes to a World Cup. Fair play must prevail on and off the field.”
Ecuador finished fourth in the World Cup qualifying pool of South America and thus qualified directly for the final tournament in Qatar. It is the fourth time in history that ‘La Tricolor’ can participate in the World Cup.
