FIFA announced its first actions against Russia on Sunday. The World Football Association will no longer allow matches to be played on Russian soil as long as the country is at war with Ukraine.

FIFA said in a statement that no more international tournaments will be played in Russia. They move to neutral ground, where spectators are not welcome.

Furthermore, FIFA reports that from now on Russian national teams will be referred to as the Football Association of Russia and that the flag and the national anthem of the Russians are no longer used during international matches.

FIFA also says it is in talks with the national associations of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden. They had recently announced that they would no longer play against Russia for the time being.

Russia would play against Poland in Moscow in a first play-off for the World Cup in Qatar, after which the winner of that game would play against the Czech Republic or Sweden on March 29 in the Russian capital for a place at the World Cup in Qatar.

On Sunday, England also announced that they did not want to play against Russia for the time being. France has already spoken out in favor of not admitting Russia to the World Cup, which will be held in November and December.
