Filmmaker Spike Lee is applauded by Brazilian fans during lecture

American filmmaker Spike Lee, known for directing films such as ''Do the Right Thing'', ''Malcom X'' and ''Klansman'', this Friday (11) was at Rio Innovation Week 202 – largest innovation and technology event in Latin America – where he spoke to fans on the main stage of the convention, and was applauded by them.

40 minutes late, Lee was on stage at 2pm, but was forgiven and apologized to the fans. The attraction, highly anticipated on the last day of the event at Pier Mauá, included an illustrious visit to the community of Santa Mata, in Botafogo, where in 1995 he filmed scenes from the video for ''They Don't Carw About Us'', a song by Michael Jackson. During the visit, the director took a photo next to the statue of the King of Pop:

''They don't care about us. Greetings from Santa Marta-Rio Brazil, where our brother and I made the damn scene 26 years ago'', said in the caption of the photo.

To introduce himself to the event, the video was shown on the screen before the director entered, but this was not the only gesture of Brazilian representation that Spike chose to adopt. On stage, the filmmaker entered wearing the Brazilian team's shirt, made reference to singer Gal Costa (who passed away on the 9th) and criticized the current president of the republic: Jair Bolsonaro.

The public was still ''digesting'' the entrance performance, but Spike asked for a minute of silence for the death of singer Gal Costa before greeting the public and celebrating Luís Inácio Lula da Silva's victory, which he compared as being a victory of love over hate. ''Bolsonaro and the former president of the United States (Donald Trump) are gangsters, he and his friends'', phrase that caused him to be greatly applauded by everyone present there.

Still on stage, the American filmmaker discussed other political topics such as technology being a tricky tool, FakeNews, and finally about his creativity and filmography, also commenting on the production of Michael Jackson's acclaimed music video.
