Since actor Elliot Page came out as a non-binary trans person, using masculine and neutral pronouns, the atmosphere on the set of the series The Umbrella Academy seems to have improved for the actor. According to a profile of the actor written by TEAMPage said that while returning to set after coming out can be a little awkward at times, it has been a positive and validating experience. Even with some co-stars accidentally using the wrong pronouns because he is a “adjustment period“, as the actor said, they “see and recognize him“.

Steve Blackman, showrunner of the series, said that “It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, there's a feeling of comfort. A lightness, a lot more smiles.”. Page has also received public support from Justin H. Min, who plays Ben in The Umbrella Academyand actor Ian McKellen, who starred alongside Page in X-Men: The Last Stand and is quite vocal about his support and belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Netflix's announcement that the actor would return for the third season as the character Vanya Hargreeves made fans very happy, as Vanya is one of the most popular characters on the show and this is partly due to Page's performance, a change would cause strangeness among the audience.

The Umbrella Academy follows the adventures (and misadventures) of the Hargreeves siblings, who have special abilities and were adopted by billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves to found the team he calls “Umbrella Academy”. The first two seasons of the series are available on Netflix and a third season has already been confirmed, although it does not yet have a release date due to delays caused by the pandemic.
