Florianópolis International Airport resumes operations after aircraft incident

Hercílio Luz International Airport in Florianópolis resumed operations at 8:15 p.m. on Monday (12) after remaining closed for 18 hours due to an incident involving an aircraft that was damaged upon landing. According to information from Zurich Airport Brasil, the concessionaire that manages the terminal, the main runway was only reopened after rigorous safety inspections, necessary to ensure the integrity of air operations.

The Landing Incident

The incident occurred on Monday morning, when Azul flight AD 4225 suffered significant damage upon touching the runway. According to witnesses, the impact upon landing was stronger than usual, causing damage to the aircraft's landing gear and tires. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew, but the plane was immobilized on the runway, blocking landing and takeoff operations at the airport.

The situation required immediate action by the airport's emergency teams, who followed safety protocols to remove the aircraft from the runway. However, due to the complexity of the operation and subsequent inspections, the airport remained closed for an extended period.

Cancellations and delays

During the 18 hours that the airport was closed, at least 99 flights were canceled, which had a major impact on passengers. Many people had their travel plans interrupted, causing disruption and crowding in the airport's service areas. In addition to the cancellations, other flights suffered significant delays or were redirected to nearby airports.

Floripa Airport reported that affected passengers are receiving assistance and that all possible measures are being taken to minimize disruption. Airport authorities and airlines are now focused on normalizing the situation. The resumption of operations has been successful, but the effects of the closure may still be felt in the coming days, until the normal flow of flights is fully reestablished.
