The only woman elected the best female soccer player in the world six times, the Alagoan from Dois Riachos is considered by many to be the biggest female reference in the sport. Between titles and exploits for clubs and selection, the Queen became in 2019 the top scorer in World Cup historyconsidering both female and male competition. In 2009, she was listed by Época magazine as one of the 100 most influential Brazilians of the year. Currently, Marta is an ambassador for the United Nations Development Program and her mission is to promote and participate in actions in needy communities, defending sport as a tool in pursuit of social and gender equality. In addition, she was appointed by the UN as an advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals. Rafaela Silva The first Brazilian judo world champion, in 2013, the carioca is also the only athlete of the modality, between men and women, to win the titles of the World Championship and the Olympic Games, a feat achieved in the edition of Rio-2016. In 2022, she repeated the mark and won another gold at the World Cup, in addition to having five other medals in her gallery: three silvers and two bronzes. Practicing judo since the age of five in a social project, Rafaela suffered from racial and gender prejudice throughout her life, even hearing that she would not be able to complete her studies because of the sport. Today graduated in Physical Education, she is one of the great sports figures in the country and a model of inspiration for new fighters. Ronda Rousey Many people know fighter Ronda Rousey for her success in MMA, more specifically for her titles and records in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. But, long before shining in the UFC octagons, the American was a reference in judo, being the first female Olympic medalist in her country, with bronze in Beijing-2008, among other achievements. But Ronda’s great legacy for the sport is its representativeness. Whatever the modality, it once and for all opened the doors to women in martial arts, previously predominantly practiced by men, breaking down barriers and giving visibility to female fighters.
