Gabi Portilho and Tarciane are nominated for the 2024 Ballon d'Or

France Football Magazine, which annually holds one of the main awards in international football, the Ballon d'Or, announced this Wednesday (04) the 30 women who will compete for the title of Best Player in the World. Among the names, Brazilians Gabi Portilho, striker for Corinthians and Tarciane, defender for Houston Dash, appear as nominees.

In addition to the two athletes, the coach of the Brazilian women's team, Arthur Elias, was also nominated for Coach of the Year at the awards ceremony. The winners will be announced on October 28 at a ceremony at the Théâthe du Châtelet in France.

Nominated for “Best Female Player”

At 29 years old, Gabi Portilho has had a brilliant career, standing out both for Corinthians and the Brazilian National Team. For the São Paulo club, the forward played in 153 games and scored 29 goals, in addition to winning 13 titles for the team. For the Brazilian National Team, Gabi participated in 20 goals and scored three goals. She was also one of the team's standout attackers during the Paris 2024 Olympics, scoring the goal in the game between Brazil and France, which guaranteed Brazil's qualification for the semifinals.

Tarciane, 21, played for Corinthians until May 2024, when she was transferred to Houston Dash, in the United States, and became the biggest transfer in Brazilian women's football. Still with Timão, the player won 10 titles and with Amarelinha, she participated in 10 games and scored one goal.

In an interview with CBF, coach Arthur Elias saw the nominations of Brazilians as an enrichment for national football, and says he still hopes that in the future more and more Brazilian athletes will also be recognized like Gabi and Tarciane.

“These are athletes who worked with me for a long time, who were fundamental in the achievements of both Corinthians and the Brazilian National Team, so I was very happy and very proud of their nomination,” the coach added to the CBF.

In previous editions of the Women's Football Ballon d'Or, which was created in 2018, only two other Brazilians were nominated for the award: Marta, who came in fourth place in 2018 and 16th in the 2019 edition; and Debinha, who came in 28th place last year.

Best Women's Football Coach

Arthur Elias, like Gabi Portilho and Tarciane before joining the Brazilian national team, also had a great impact at Corinthians, where he won 16 titles with the women's team. The coach, who has been with the women's team for almost a year and won a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games, celebrated the nomination and also highlighted and thanked the entire Technical Committee for their collective work. He played 21 games for Brazil, winning 14 and losing seven.
