Galo confirms second game of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals for Arena MRV

Clube Atlético Mineiro confirmed this Thursday (05) that the second game of the duel against São Paulo, for the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil, will take place at Arena MRV. The match is scheduled for September 12, at 9:45 pm, and Galo has the advantage for having won the first match 1-0.

Possible Change

The pitch at the Minas Gerais team's new arena had been experiencing some problems, which meant that some matches were being played at Mineirão, a traditional stadium in Belo Horizonte. For this reason, the club's board of directors was evaluating whether it would be better to keep the match against Tricolor Paulista at the Arena, or to take it to Mineirão, as was the case in the match against Fluminense, in the Brasileirão.

However, after some technical visits, it was found that the surface had improved significantly, and Galo confirmed the stadium as the venue for the match. Another relevant factor for this decision was the show by Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, which will take place next Saturday (07), on the Mineirão lawn, which could harm the conditions of the grass for Thursday's match.

Victor Bagy, the club's football director, manager Pedro Moreira, and the assistant to Galo's permanent technical committee, Lucas Gonçalves, visited the stadium last Wednesday (04), to assess the situation and the conditions of the grass.

First leg

The first leg between the teams took place on August 28, at Morumbis, and was marked by the tribute paid to defender Juan Izquierdo, from Nacional of Uruguay, who suffered a sudden illness while playing the duel, valid for the Copa Libertadores, against Tricolor Paulista.

The match was full of tributes made by the fans and the athletes, however, the Atlético team came out on top after scoring a goal in the last minutes of stoppage time in the second half. Galo and São Paulo will face each other again for a place in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil on the 12th, at 9:45 pm, at Arena MRV.
