God of War Ragnarök
- Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
- Score: 5 out of 5 stars
The sequel to the 2018 game God of War does it all just a bit grander and more spectacular. You once again play the retired war god Kratos, who tries to survive with his son Atreus in Midgard, Norway. This proves difficult when the gods Thor and Odin come to harass them.
Ragnarök is a great action game with crazy battles, but at its core it also turns out to be an intimate, personal game. The bond between Kratos and Atreus is deepened further and further, with parenting and aging at the center – a game about puberty.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet (Games of the month ps)
- Platform: Nintendo Switch
- Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are games with two faces. On the one hand, they shake up the old Pokémon formula well, swapping out all the old-fashioned stuff for a grand sandbox that you can explore on your own. Never before has playing a Pokémon game felt like exploring a world.
On the other hand, the game is plagued by problems. It was never unplayable in our tests, but the choppy visuals are simply annoying to look at.

Pentiment
- Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series
- Score: 4 out of 5 stars
Pentiment is a passion project from Microsoft studio Obsidian, which combines elements of role-playing and point-and-click adventures into something special. It’s the sixteenth century and the Renaissance is also beginning to creep into the remote Bavarian mountain village of Tassing. The local abbey tries to keep the arrival of Protestantism and the printing press at bay, but when a revolutionary-minded baron is murdered in the abbey, the village comes under high tension.
You play Andreas Maler, a traveling artist who works in the abbey. Because a friend of his is blamed, he decides to act as a detective. Every part of the day you can do research as Andreas, but the number of days is limited. So you have to think carefully about what and who you want to investigate. There are no really good answers.
The drawing style is reminiscent of the way old books were illustrated and gives this game a lot of atmosphere. Even the fonts in each character’s speech bubbles give you an impression of who you have in front of you, although these fonts can also be turned off for those who are bothered by them.
Pentiment is a special game that has to make do with its story, which ultimately extends over several decades, the atmosphere and the setting. The pace is slow and can therefore be boring. But for those who can surrender to the slow, rural world of Tassing, there is a lot of interesting stuff to be found.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch
- Score: 4 out of 5 stars
Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a revised version of a game that appeared for the Super Nintendo in the nineties and shook up the role-playing genre. You play the young Denim, who, together with his rebel group, becomes embroiled in an ever-growing war in the torn kingdom of Valeria.
It’s a story that sometimes feels like Game of Thrones, with many different characters all having their own interests. That was unique for a game in the nineties and ensures that this new, more beautiful version has aged well.
The game revolves around the many battles. You fight entire battles on a grid, taking turns telling all your soldiers where to walk and who to attack. It feels like a variant of chess, where all kinds of side rules make it even more complex. For example, one soldier can only attack at close range and the other cannot climb on high ledges.
Tactics Ogre has defined what these kinds of “strategic role-playing games” would look like in the years that follow, but this original is still one of the best of its kind after all these years. An excellent game for those who want to spend dozens of hours pondering difficult war dilemmas.
