Gay senator takes action against homophobic pastor: I can’t shut up!
In the midst of the pastor’s homophobic speech Andre Valadao last Sunday (02), senator Fabiano Contarato went public to inform that it will act, together with the public ministryas a representative in the accusation against the religious.
Denounced by the deputy Erika HiltonValadão held a service at Lagoinha Church, in Orlando, United States, when he came out against same-sex marriage and hinted that religious people should kill members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Then God says: ‘I can’t anymore. I already put that rainbow there. If I could, I’d kill everything and start over. But I already promised myself that I can’t, now it’s up to you.” said André Valadão to the evangelicals.
The pastor’s prejudiced statements not only reached the eyes of Brazilians – through a broadcast made by the institution’s YouTube channel -, but also generated a reaction from Fabiano Contarato, the first openly gay senator in Brazil.
Through its social networks, Contarato expressed indignation at Valadão’s speech, stating that “PFor everything I am, for what I believe, for my family and for everything I hope for society, I cannot remain silent in the face of the crime committed by André Valadão”.
The senator also completed informing that he will criminally represent against the pastor and make him answer “for manipulating the faith and inciting violence”.
After the repercussions of the case, this Monday (03) the religious leader spoke through Instagram. Valadão stated that he was not exactly referring to killing LGBTQIA+ people, but to changing them. He even accused the laws and media of censorship for, according to him, pursuing the faith of a “genuine Christian”.
“It will never be about killing, segregating, but about resetting”, explained the pastor.

However, this was not the only time that André Valadão carried out homophobic attacks. On June 4, the leader of the Church of Lagoinha made a post on Instagram, in which he said that the month of June – responsible for celebrating gay pride – would be the month that “God most repudiates in humanity”.
After all the speeches, deputy Erika Hilton not only stated that the pastor should not go unpunished for preaching violence and intolerance, but also requested his arrest to the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais
