European Championship

Germany finished the preparation for the European Championship on Monday with a monster victory. In Düsseldorf, they won 7-1 in an exhibition game against Latvia.

The big win is a welcome boost for the team of outgoing national coach Joachim Löw. Germany’s performance in recent months has been lousy, including a 6-0 loss to Spain and a 1-2 defeat to modest North Macedonia.

On Wednesday, Germany also did not beat Denmark (1-1), but on Monday ‘Die Mannschaft’ Letland showed all corners of the field.

Six different German players (Robin Gosens, Ilkay Gündogan, Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry and substitutes Timo Werner and Leroy Sané) were sure and Latvian goalkeeper Roberts Ozols also worked the ball into his own goal.

Neuer doesn’t keep the zero in 100th international (European Championship)

In addition to Müller, Mats Hummels also distinguished himself with a nice assist on Gnabry. Both routiniers were ignored by Löw for a long time, but were accepted back into grace shortly before the European Championships.

Little smear was the counter-hit of Aleksejs Saveljevs 15 minutes before time. As a result, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not hold the score in his 100th international game.

Germany will start the European Championship next Tuesday with a game against France in Munich. Portugal and Hungary are also part of the tough Group F.
