Government updates list of permitted Bets and adds five betting houses

The Brazilian government has increased the number of Bets that are authorized to continue operating in Brazil. It is worth noting that today is the last day to retrieve money from houses that are not released. Compared to the list released last week, five companies were added to those allowed. Thus, the number that was 193 houses became 205.

The measure was possible due to companies taking the possible measures to continue operating in the country. Some of them obtained state authorization. Even though betting has been legal since 2018, it was only regulated in 2023. So, check out the new list of authorized Bets:

Authorized bets

On October 1st, the Ministry of Finance revealed which betting houses could operate in Brazil. The measure seeks to remove from the country bets that do not comply with what is requested by the Law 14,790/2023sanctioned last year. The issue, which divided opinions in the Federal Senate, involves the collection of taxes, which would be allocated to areas such as education, health and public security.

The government also promised tougher supervision, with monitoring by CPF, limiting payment methods and regulating advertising. Credit cards and Bolsa Família cards should be banned from the websites.

Betting boom

The phenomenon of online betting has grown exponentially in Brazil. In fact, the country appears first in lists that point out the places with the highest number of accesses. With the losses being considerably greater than the gains, the Brazilian government began to treat the situation as a public health problem. Minister of Finance, Haddad even stated that bets should be treated in the same way as cigarettes. One of the most alarming examples is what was found in a Central Bank report in August, pointing out that R$3 billion of resources delivered to Bolsa Família beneficiaries were spent on the internet.
