Hekkensluiter Norwich City sacks coach Farke

Premier League-hekkensluiter Norwich City has Saturday night his coach Daniel Farke fired. The team of goalkeeper Tim Krul had a few hours earlier his first league victory of the season booked.

Norwich City won 1-2 against Brentford on Saturday afternoon and came in points equal with number nineteen Newcastle United. It turned out not to be enough to save Farke’s job.

“This was not an easy decision,” says sporting director Stuart Webber on the site of Norwich City. “But we feel that this is the right time to intervene to give us the best chance of not being relegated from the Premier League.”

Farke has been Norwich’s coach since May 2017. The 45-year-old German led ‘The Canaries’ in 2019 and last season to promotion to the Premier League by becoming champion in the Championship. In the 2019/2020 season, Norwich were relegated by finishing twentieth and last in the Premier League.

“Everyone at Norwich City should be eternally grateful to Daniel and his staff for what they have achieved here. They will always be welcome here,” said Webber. “But now it’s important to look ahead. We know we have enough quality to rise in the rankings.”
