– best Ai and Ai related updates, fresh and up to date Ai reviews, technologies and best Ai earning Opportunities near you!

Perplexity is this year's best search engine. It uses artificial intelligence to answer questions based on online sources, offering short and precise summaries, always accompanied by citations. Links in the results allow you to verify the information and explore the topic further.

See below some examples, limitations and alternatives.

PRICE

Free for unlimited quick searches and up to five Pro searches per day. There's also a $20 per month plan that offers 300+ Pro searches and unlimited file uploads. Available for both the web and iOS and Android.

PRIVACY

– Perplexity offers the option of searching in an anonymous tab, without needing to have an account.

– If you create one to store your search results, you can activate “incognito mode” on any individual query.

– You can also disable the “data retention” option in the settings.

– The tool only analyzes public information – it does not access paid content. And it only reads URLs related to specific questions asked by the user.

USEFUL RESOURCES

Pages: Share results by creating customizable public pages. Example: Guide for beginner drummers.

Quotes: Perplexity always provides links to its sources so you can explore the topic further.

Objective results: Instead of long articles or lists of links, it offers direct answers that save time. Tip: Quick searches are great for simple facts (e.g. when Michael Jordan retired). For more complex questions, use Pro searches. You can activate them in the search field.

Reasoning in stages: Perplexity breaks complex questions into parts and shows the phrases used in the search. Tip: detailed and specific questions generate better results than simple keywords.

Refinement: It is possible to refine searches by choosing sources or types of content, such as videos, academic publications or social networks. Tip: to search on a specific domain, you can type “domain:.gov”, for example, to focus only on government websites. Or simply use natural language to limit the type of result.

Additional questions: To delve deeper into the topic of your query, simply ask additional questions, as in a conversation. Depending on the search, the tool can suggest relevant images and videos.

Collections: Group related searches into collections. I created one about Atlanta before a recent trip. You can keep it private, invite others to edit it, or share the link.

EXAMPLES: WHEN TO USE PERPLEXITY

1. To learn about a topic: Want to know more about relations between China and North Korea? Ask for a summary with sources and go as deep as you want.

2. For specific information: If you want to know about organizations that help respond to earthquakes, ask for a list of institutions that gather information about natural disasters.

3. To explore personal curiosities: If you are interested in Mozart, for example, ask about his violin concertos, search for important dates and details.

EXTRA RESOURCES

– Perplexity offers an encyclopedia with an interesting collection of tool comparisons such as Description versus Adobe Audition.

– The free Chrome extension allows you to search directly from any page. However, the “summarize” button doesn’t always work.

LIMITATIONS

Image generation: although it allows you to create images, this function is not the focus of the interface. For this, I recommend services like Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Canva or Flux. Personally, I use DALL-E 3, included in the ChatGPT Plus plan, which costs $20 per month.

Accuracy and errors: Despite using augmented recovery generation to reduce errors, the tool is not perfect. Always check information before using it.

Real-time information: Perplexity is not the best source for up-to-date information. I tested it with recent news and realized that it is better to consult reliable journalistic sources. The “Discovery” section offers news summaries, but, as with Google News, it is not clear how topics and sources are selected.

Document analysis: the maximum file size is 25MB. For larger files, try converting them to text.

PDFs: Perplexity works best with PDFs that have clear text. She has difficulty reading old handwritten or faded documents.
