How to capture Manaphy and Phione

Of all the little monsters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, no capture is more enigmatic and complicated than that of the legendary Manaphy and Phione.

A series of steps are required, which include capturing certain Pokémon and visiting exotic locations on the maps.

Do you accept the mission?

The first step is to accept the task of capturing the two Legendaries.

When accepting the mission, a cutscene takes place that seems to serve more to confuse than to help – but that's okay, after all it is an enigma. After regaining control of your character, it's time to go after three specific Pokémon.

Capture Buziel, Mantyke and Overqwil

You will need to have Buziel, Matyke and Overqwil in your group to advance to the next step of the mission.

The first two are pretty easy to get. Buziel is easily found in Obsidian Fieldlands, the first map in the game. Just go to an area close to the water to find it. Mantyke can be found in Cobalt Coastlands in droves, especially near Tranquility Cove.

The challenge is Overqwil, since he is an evolution. To get it, you will first need to capture a male Qwilfish. Check out the image below where it can be found in Cobalt Coastlands – the locations are marked with yellow Poké Balls.

After capturing it, you will need to evolve it into Overqwil, which requires a good number of battles. You must use the Barb Barrage attack in Strong mode 20 times, that is, you will have to fight until he masters the attack and then use it until the possibility of evolution is released.

With the three little monsters on your team, it's time to solve the most enigmatic part of the mission.

Pass through the claw-shaped rock

Make sure Buziel, Matyke, and Overqwil are in your main group and head to Cobalt Coastlands. If possible, use the fast travel to the field called Coastland Camps, which is very close to our destination. Furthermore, we need to sleep until evening to unlock the secret, so release this field if you haven't already.

Notice that in the water there are two rocks shaped like horns or claws above the surface, as shown in the image. Use your swimming Pokémon to cross it with the three puzzle monsters on your team.

If you do everything right, a notification will appear, saying that a stone has moved somewhere. This means the entrance to Manaphy and Phione's cave has opened!

Capture the Legendaries

Our destination is Seaside Hollow Cave, also in Cobalt Coastlands – click on the yellow Poké Ball marked on the map to find out the exact location. This location was sealed, but after solving the puzzle, it was released for exploration.

Before traveling to the legendary location, change your Pokémon team to one with stronger monsters, level 50 or higher, and remember to take good Poké Balls for catching. Another valuable tip are mud balls, which work very well to paralyze the little monsters.

Inside the cave there is a level 50 Manaphy and three lower level Phione. They are very close to each other, so be careful not to start a battle against all of them at once.

It is possible to capture all of them, but you only need to capture Manaphy to complete the mission. If you accidentally defeat him, don't worry: you can try again when leaving and entering the cave.
