The iCloud Keychain security feature, also called iCloud Passwords, is available for iPhone (iOS) and Mac (macOS), being a tool for storing passwords for websites, social networks, online shopping card data, among other information important.

The aim is to store it securely, saving the data with automatic filling. iCloud Keychain was introduced in iOS 7, and all passwords and information are available to the user, saved in the Apple manager application.

How to create a profile in iCloud Passwords

• Open the Passwords app;
• Enter a name for the group;
• Tap Add People;
• Enter the name, email address or number of the person or people you want to add;
• Tap Add;
• Tap Create.

Turn on iCloud Keychain on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro

Before you turn on iCloud Keychain, update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, the latest version of macOS, or the latest version of visionOS, and make sure two-factor authentication is turned on for your Apple Account.

Turn on iCloud Keychain on Mac

• Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
• Click your name and iCloud.
• On macOS Catalina, click “Apple ID”, “iCloud”;
• In previous versions, click on “iCloud”;
• On macOS Sonoma or earlier, click Passwords & Keys.
• Click Sync this Mac, then click Done.

If you select the “Approve Later” option when signing in to your Apple Account, you'll need to approve signing in with an old passcode from another device when prompted. If you are unable to approve, reset your end-to-end encrypted data when prompted.

What happens when you turn off iCloud Keychain

• When you turn off iCloud Keychain, your password, passkey, and credit card information is stored locally on your device.
• When you sign out of iCloud on your device with iCloud Keychain turned on, you'll be prompted to keep or delete the information in your Keychain.
  • When you choose to keep this information, your passwords and passkeys will be stored locally on your device but will not be erased or updated when you make changes on other devices.
  • If you do not keep the information, passwords and passkeys will not be available on the device. An encrypted copy of your Keychain data will be kept on iCloud servers. If you turn iCloud Keychain back on, your passwords and passcodes will sync to your device again.
• When you turn off iCloud Keychain or sign out of iCloud on your device, you won't have access to any of your shared password groups. Other members of these groups will still have access to the passwords and passkeys you shared.
