Did you know that WhatsApp read confirmation occurs when the person who received the message opens the conversation? At this point, the text displays two blue “checkmarks”. If you don’t want your contacts to know when you’ve read the content they’ve sent, learn how to disable this feature in the tutorial below.

What do the symbols mean? ✔ and ✔✔ on the platform?

On WhatsApp, the so-called “tick” is the icon that represents confirmation of sending, receiving and reading messages. Below, see the three types:

• ✔ – Message sent;
• ✔✔ – Message delivered to the recipient of the conversation;
• ✔✔ (in blue) – Message read by the recipient of the conversation.

How to enable or disable read receipts on WhatsApp

On Android

Important: This feature is not available for group chats or voice messages.

On iOS

Important: This feature is not available for group chats or voice messages.

1. Access the app

First, at the bottom of the WhatsApp home area, tap “Settings”.

2. Go to settings

Then, in the back area, tap “Privacy”.

3. Make the change

Finally, scroll down and activate or deactivate the “Read confirmation” mode.

On WhatsApp for computer

Important: This feature is not available for group chats or voice messages.

It is not possible to enable or disable read receipts in the desktop app. In the web browser version, you can manage it as follows:

1. First, at the bottom of the left tab on the WhatsApp home screen, click on the gear icon;
2. In the area that opens immediately after, click on “Privacy”;
3. Finally, on the next tab, check or uncheck the “Read confirmation” option.
