Even with the constant evolution of technology, iPhone batteries are not always ideal for the daily routine of all consumers. Because of this, the time of use of the product's technical specifications ends up being relative, since it depends on which applications you use the most, for example.
To give users a better understanding of this expense, Apple has a native iOS/iPadOS feature that allows users to view how long each application was used, and the relative percentage of battery consumed in the last 24 hours and the last 10 days.
This feature is useful for finding out which apps consume the most energy, impacting the battery life of smartphones and tablets. Below, learn how to find out which apps consume the most energy on your device.
How to know which app consumes the most battery on your iPhone or iPad
Time needed: 5 minutes
- Open the “Settings” on your iPhone or iPad and tap “Battery”;
- Scroll up to see a list of apps that are draining the most battery. You can use the tabs to switch between the last 24 hours or 10 days;
- If you want to stop an app from using battery in the background, go to the main Settings screen and open “General.” Then, tap “Background App Refresh” and turn off the option for the desired apps.

To toggle between the percentage used in each app, and the time in each app, tap “Show Battery Usage,” “Show Activity,” or on top of any app.
You can also check how long your phone’s screen was on or off, and when it was last recharged. Below the apps, you can also see additional information when the “Show Activity” option is enabled:
- Background Activity: means that the battery was used while an application was performing a task in the background.
- Audio: Battery was used in apps that play audio in the background.
- No Cell Signal or Weak Signal: This means that your iPhone or iPad was searching for a signal or was using a very weak signal — which causes the device to search for a stronger signal. In both cases, the battery is impacted.
- Make Backup or Restore: means that a backup of the device to iCloud or a restore from an iCloud backup was performed.
- Connected to Charger: The application was used while the device was connected to the charger.
It is worth noting that the procedure is the same, whether checking on the iPhone or the iPad.
