What is two-factor authentication?

The most widely used cybersecurity mechanism to protect an online profile is called “Two-factor authentication.” This feature can be used in different ways (such as registering an email address, cell phone number, or enabling an authenticator app), but the purpose is always the same: to increase the security of your profile.

It works very simply: when you log in to your profile, you will be informed that there is an attempt to access your account and it is up to you to authorize this access or not.

In the case of authenticator apps, the social network will ask for a unique, random numeric code that will be available in the authenticator app; you must copy the code from the app before it expires, paste it into the social network and click OK. This way, you confirm your identity and reduce the chances of someone accessing your profile without your authorization.

Meta is the company responsible for controlling different social networks, such as Instagram and Facebook. In order to increase the proximity between both applications, the developers allowed users to synchronize both Instagram and Facebook profiles.

This synchronization can be accessed in the Account Center tab, present in the settings of both applications, and one of its advantages is that you can increase the cybersecurity of both profiles in just one application.
