Apple AirTags are handy accessories for tracking personal items like keys, wallets, and luggage. With the “Share Item Location” feature, you can let others track the location of an item paired with your AirTag. See how to configure and use this functionality in a simple way.

What is the Share Item Location feature?

The “Share Item Location” feature lets you share an AirTag or other compatible item with up to five people. This way, they will be able to view and track the location of the item through the Search app, in addition to playing sounds to facilitate the search when the object is nearby.

How to set up Share Item Location

Time required: 5 minutes

  1. Open the Find My app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Items, tap the name of the AirTag or item you want to share, then tap “Add Person” below “Share This AirTag” (or “Share This Item”).
  3. Enter the Apple Account information for the person you want to add.

To add more people, tap the “+” sign.

  4. Tap the name of the person you want to share with, then tap their Apple Account.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each person you want to add.

  5. When you're done adding people, tap Share in the top right corner.

A list of all the people you've invited appears on the item's main screen, along with the status of the invitations.

When someone accepts the invitation, the shared AirTag will appear in the Find My app in the Items section, and the recipient will receive a notification that an item is being shared with them. If the person declines the invitation, the person's name is removed from the list and you will no longer see them.
