Having your identity verified on LinkedIn adds an extra layer of authenticity and trust to your profile. This verification is performed by Persona, a LinkedIn partner platform that verifies government-issued documents, such as passports.

After this verification, your profile gains a seal that confirms your identity, making you more trustworthy for employers, recruiters, and professional connections. In addition, verification helps prevent fraud and identity theft on the platform, ensuring a safer and more authentic environment for all users.

Currently, Persona identity verification is only available to users in certain countries, but LinkedIn is working to expand this functionality. It’s important to note that verification is optional and not required to use the platform.

If you decide to verify your identity, the name on your passport must match the name on your LinkedIn profile. If your profile is in another language, the name on the document must also match the name on your profile in that language. Verification is performed using a passport or e-passport with an NFC chip (the only type of document accepted in this case) via the LinkedIn app on mobile devices, and is not available via web browsers.

Time needed: 15 minutes

Access your profile
In the LinkedIn app, tap your photo in the top left corner of the screen, then tap “View Profile.”
Access the verification process
You can either tap the “Get Verified Now” button next to your name, or you can click the three dots next to “Add Section” below.
Tap “About this profile”
Tap “Get verified now”
Tap “Check with Persona”
Tap “Accept and Continue”
Read and select the acceptance options for the Persona Identity Service Terms of Use and the Persona Privacy Policy.
Select Country
Select the country where your passport was issued and then tap “Continue”.
Tap “Yes, continue”
Upload a photo of your passport
Take a photo of your passport and if the photo is of good quality, tap “Use this photo”, or you can tap “Take photo again” to try again.
Read the NFC chip
Tap “Start scanning” and bring the back of your passport closer to your cell phone’s camera and wait for confirmation that the scan is complete.
Take a selfie
Tap “Start” and follow the on-screen instructions to take a selfie and verify your identity.
Share verification with LinkedIn
Click “Yes, Share” to send the verification and some related information to LinkedIn.
