On your PC, check if the person has the Threads “@” symbol on their Instagram profile

You can check on Instagram to see if someone has the Threads “@” in their bio, just below their name. Meta, the conglomerate that owns Instagram and Threads, calls this “@” a “badge.”

The Threads badge in the bio works as a direct shortcut to the platform and is easily identifiable, as it represents the Threads logo with the stylized “@”.

However, the absence of the badge on the Instagram profile does not mean that the person does not have an active Threads account. This is because Instagram gives you the option to display the badge in the bio or not.

So, it's possible that someone has an active Threads account but has chosen not to put the badge in their Instagram bio.

On your PC, you can search for a person's profile directly within Threads.

Another option is to search for the person's name directly on the Threads platform. You don't need to be logged in.

In Threads, click the magnifying glass icon and type the person's name or the nickname they usually use on other social networks.

On your phone, check the Instagram app to see if the person has the Threads “@” symbol on their profile

In the Instagram app, go to the person’s profile and see if they have added the Threads “@” (or “badge”) in their bio, just below their profile picture. This badge serves as a direct shortcut to Threads.

Depending on your phone's settings, clicking on the badge may open a page in your browser directly to Threads, without having to be logged in. However, it is more common for Instagram to ask you to install the Threads app in order to view your account.
