Icon of the pop universe, singer Madonna will once again be present at the VMAs

With the announcement of nominations for the (VMA) MTV Video Music Awards 2022, the artist Madonna is among the list. The icon in the pop universe that has crossed generations is one of the few artists from multiple decades, now adding 2020.

The singer was the first woman in history to win the “Video Vanguard Award” for her trajectory and career, in 1986. Over the decades, the artists accumulated 20 wins and 29 nominations.

Madonna was nominated this year in the “Best Longform Video” (best long clip) by “Madame X“. Perhaps the title is confusing, but it is a kind of making of the album released in 2019.

The video tells the story of her moving to Portugal because her son was going to play football for a team in the country. At first, she felt frustrated as an artist because she didn't know anyone, but little by little she made friends who were Portuguese musicians who took her to bars in Lisbon, where local music was very present, after which the idea for the project emerged.

Madonna's relationship with the VMAs

In 2003, the singer took the stage with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott to sing a medley of “Like A Virgin/Hollywood”. During the performance, Madonna wore a suit and the other two artists dressed as brides, were surprised by an iconic kiss from the pop star's muse.

The performance of “Like A Virgin” put the singer in the spotlight when she was enjoying the first steps of success in 1985. She had a performance by “Express Yourself” in 1989, “Vogue” in 1990, among others. The artist was present at the awards every day.

Even if she is not on stage to receive awards, Madonna never fails to be present at the MTV Video Music Awards, to illustrate her great voice.
