An issue that was little talked about in the mainstream media and that has recently come to light is the lack of immense black representation in the United States media. Several artists, singers, intellectuals and actors are increasingly adopting the approach. And singer Nicki Minaj didn't miss out either. In an interview with the British magazine iD, which featured American rapper JT, member of the group City Girls, Nicki revealed her opinion on the topic, in addition to commenting on her position in the industry.
“There has always been a lack of representation for black women: as soon as you start to become famous, you owe it to the entire culture to say things that other black women can repeat to make themselves feel good.“, opined Nicki Minaj.
The artist touched on an interesting point, stating that the aesthetic issue in the market is a point to be raised.“When you grow up and only see people who look a certain way on magazine covers, in movies and on TV, you can start to feel, 'Am I not good enough?' That comes from performance too.”
The American was moved when talking about how being an international celebrity can affect other people's lives, especially on the issue of female empowerment.
“Once you see the look on people's faces when they're singing your lyrics back to you, and the confidence and happiness they're having, it makes you want to always empower girls to feel, 'Hey, I don't need a guy for anything. I can put my mind to anything I need to do, and do it as well as men alone.' Except for having sex with a penis, I don't know about that.”he concluded.

The artist also considers herself a legend in the music industry, and admitted that, for her, her story will never be forgotten: “If I never rap again, I will still leave this earth an icon.”.
In another part of the interview, Nicki Minaj revealed that positioning is an extremely important tool in society, although the attitude may be frowned upon by some people.
“Just because a person fights back doesn’t mean they aren’t afraid. I suppressed years of things I wanted to say. People lied about me, and I didn't respond. There has always been a level of fear there because this is a business.”started
The rapper also revealed that she is not afraid to expose herself and criticize society, even if it can cost her million-dollar contracts. “This is a job. And in the same way that nine-to-five people can lose their jobs and not be able to pay their bills, an artist can lose their job. They may lose their place; they may lose their money. So there is always some reserve there. But I decided that I have to speak now,” he said.
Concluding the interview, Nicki countered the criticism she had been receiving due to her active positioning in relation to issues that are rarely covered in the media, but says that she no longer cares about other people's opinions, because, according to her, she owes nothing to anyone.
“You know, I see the hip-hop community praise so many other people for speaking up for themselves, but for some reason they seem to have a problem when I do that. Once I realized that this double standard exists, I decided that I don't give a shit anymore. I think there's a little less fear now at this point in my career because I realize that my fans aren't going anywhere. I paid my debts.”

Recently, the 39-year-old singer made waves around the world with her hit “Super Freaky Girl”. Thanks to the positive reception, the rapper revealed that her newest album, which had no scheduled release date, may arrive on music platforms sooner than expected.
Nicki's intention is to deliver the best work of her life, taking into account what the world has been through with Covid-19. According to her, production of the new album will be accelerated to please fans, and will probably be available at the end of this year.
