This past Sunday, November 17th, the current president of the USA, Joe Biden, said during his visit to Manaus that “we do not need to make choices between climate and economy, as we are able to choose both options”. In a brief visit to the capital of Amazonas, Joe Biden became the first sitting American president to come to the Amazon region.
Joe Biden highlights the importance of his environmental legacy
Biden declared that his government will leave the legacy to his successor, Donald Trump, however, he did not mention the name of the future president who will take office in the White House on January 20, 2025. Biden also adds that the forest is a look into the past and future, enabling lessons to be passed down from generations to generations.

Biden announces investments for the Amazon
President Joe Biden announced that an investment of US$50 million will be made, around R$298.8 million, destined for the Amazon Fund, with the aim of raising donations to carry out prevention and sustainable conservation work in the Forest. The White House reported that the US government investment aims to speed up the conservation of water and land in the locality and also protect biodiversity and combat the effects of the climate crisis. A first amount of US$50 million was transferred at the beginning of the third term of the Lula Government, generating the activation of the transfer that had been deactivated during the Government of Jair Bolsonaro. The approval of this second transfer is subject to approval by the American Congress.
