In Spain, the police arrest seven people involved in racist acts against Vinicius Jr.

This Tuesday (23) the Spanish police confirmed the arrest of seven involved in the case of racism of the player Vinicios Junior, three of these people arrested were arrested in Valencia, they were directly linked to the act, when the match had to be paralyzed when the screams occurred from “monkey” directly to the Brazilian player.

It was announced by the agency: “The National Police today arrested three young people in Valencia for racist behavior that occurred last Sunday in the game between Valencia and Real Madrid”.

Apart from the three arrests that took place in the city of Valencia, which lasted a short time, since hours later the prisoners were released after their testimony, four other people were arrested in Madrid, the arrest was motivated due to a hate crime case as well related to Vinicius JR, to which a doll with his shirt was hung from a bridge in January.

The president of the Spanish Football Federation stated with regard to the country that it was going through a problem of racism, a day after this statement these arrests took place.

After the arrest, it was established by the police that three of the four men arrested were part of a “radical group of supporters of a club in Madrid”. Prisoners were identified as quickly as possible and classified as “high risk” in order to help prevent violence in sport.

Due to what happened, there has been great pressure on LaLiga to take more action in relation to the fight against racism.

The organization said in a statement this Tuesday, “according to Spanish law, LaLiga can only detect and report, but not sanction”, and urged the Spanish authorities to endow it with “sanctioning powers to be able to combat the racism more effectively”.

According to the organization, “LaLiga feels tremendous frustration with the lack of sanctions and condemnations by sports disciplinary bodies, public administrations and jurisdictional bodies to which complaints are made”.

The fact occurred before the game between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, at the end of January.
