Alexander Zverev cannot participate in Wimbledon at the end of this month as a result of injury. As expected, the number three in the world is still too bothered by the ankle injury he suffered on Friday in the semi-finals of Roland Garros.
Zverev had to give up against the later tournament winner Rafael Nadal after he went through his ankle at the end of the second set. It soon became clear that the 25-year-old German had torn several ligaments.
“Participation in Wimbledon is out of the question, that is clear,” Zverev’s brother Micha Zverev told Bild on Tuesday. “If only one or two tires are torn, he could walk again next week. If there are more, it could take months.”
The severity of the ankle injury is not yet entirely clear. “Zverev” visited the hospital in Munich on Monday for further examination. The results are not yet known.
“Alexander Zverev” is not the only top player missing from Wimbledon. The organization of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year recently decided to ban Russians because of the raid in Ukraine, which means that, among others, Daniil Medvedev does not participate.
Despite his status as a top player, Zverev is still waiting for his first Grand Slam title. The German was the closest to it at the US Open two years ago, when he reached the final. He lost to Dominic Thiem.
