Julia Garner is the favorite for the role of Madonna in a biographical film that the singer herself will direct. Well-informed sources tell Variety that the Inventing Anna actress has already been offered the role.

Garner, who played Anna Anna Delved in Inventing, would have been chosen from quite a few candidates. She would have already been offered a contract. The team of the actress is now looking into the contracts, says a source.

The biopic is about the first years of Madonna’s long musical career and follows the singer as she develops into a controversial pop icon. Film studio Universal has not yet announced when the film will be released.
