Israeli authorities react after Lula's statements about actions in the Gaza Strip
After Lula compared Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip with the extermination of Jews during the Nazi government of Germany in World War II, the Jewish State decided to summon the Brazilian ambassador to the country to “a harsh reprimanding conversation“.
Lula's statements
This weekend, while in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the president of Brazil criticized the countries that – following accusations that members of the United Nations Agency were involved in the October 7th attack – cut off funding to the agency. to help Palestinian refugees.
However, it was the claim that the Jewish State was committing genocide in the Gaza Strip and the comparison with the Holocaust that generated retaliation from the Israeli authorities.
During a meeting with the African Union summit, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva declared that “what is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people does not exist at any other historical moment. In fact, it existed when Hitler decided to kill the Jews.
“Brazil condemned Hamas, but Brazil cannot fail to condemn what the Israeli Army is doing in the Gaza Strip,†added Lula.

On social media, the president's statements were considered by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, as “shamefulâ€Â and “serious†.
At an event in Jerusalem, Netanyahu also stated that “the president dishonored the memory of 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis and demonized the Jewish State, as the most virulent anti-Semite†.
This Monday (19), Brazil's ambassador to Israel, Frederico Meyer, was summoned by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz, for a clarification meeting. Soon after, the Brazilian president was declared by Katz as a “persona non grata†in the Netanyahu government.
The minister also stated, through social media, that Lula will not be welcome in Israel until he retracts his statements.
In order to control the international crisis, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met, this Monday morning (19), with ministers and advisors at the Palacio da Alvorada.
