The Al-Aqsa Mosque was built at the end of the 7th century and is located in the city of Jerusalem, more precisely in the area called the ancient city, in the south of the Haram al-Sharif (or the Noble Sanctuary), after Mecca and Medina is the holiest site for Islam. Characterized by being the largest mosque in Jerusalem, it is capable of holding up to 5,000 people.

At the time of the reign of Jerusalem, the current mosque was used as a royal palace, a while later it was used as the headquarters of the Knights Templar. The Mosque was used again for its functions when Saladin conquered Jerusalem.
