John Galliano announces departure as creative director of Maison Margiela

This Wednesday (11), one of the most important names in the world of fashion, John Galliano, announced his departure from Maison Margiela, a French fashion house. The iconic designer has been in charge of the Maison's creative direction since 2014. The last fashion show presented by Galliano at the Maison was in January of this year. With the show that was considered by many to be the best show of his career, the designer achieved critical and public success.

Farewell to a successful era

Famous for presenting memorable fashion shows, which were considered true theatrical shows, John Galliano marked his time at the French brand by mixing fashion and performing arts, using a lot of luxury and glamour.

John Galliano, 64, became the creative mind of the French house in 2014, after a successful, albeit controversial, stint at Dior. At the time, the designer was dismissed from the brand due to his anti-Semitic statements.

In a statement on his social networks, Galliano thanked him for the creative freedom he was given during the time he was in charge of the house and, mainly, for the healthy environment he created alongside his beautiful fashion family within the Maison. He also stated that he is proud to look at the past and observe the different forms of communication he used to speak to the public, whether using technological resources, cinema or even theater. In a relaxed tone, he acknowledged that he may have been a demanding person, but that it was worth it when he reflects on what he built in fashion.
