Juventus lose points despite goal

Despite a goal from Matthijs de Ligt, Juventus again suffered a loss of points in Serie A on Friday. The city derby with Torino ended in 1-1. Jean-Paul Boëtius helped FSV Mainz with a goal to a 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

With a header, De Ligt gave Juventus the lead after thirteen minutes. The defender hit the far post after a corner by Juan Cuadrado.

For De Ligt it was his second goal of the season. In September, the Orange-international scored against Spezia (2-3 win).

Despite the early lead, Juventus played a mediocre game at home. Torino had more possession and more attempts at goal and Andrea Belotti’s equalizer after an hour of play was well deserved.

It is already the third draw for ‘Juve’ in the last five competition matches. The record champion of Italy has never quite recovered from a weak start to the season and is only fourth in Serie A, eight points behind AC Milan. Torino is tenth in the ranking.

The game started well for Leverkusen, with Jeremie Fimprong in the starting line-up and Daley Sinkgraven and Timothy Fosu-Mensah on the bench. Patrik Schick opened the score shortly before half time with his twentieth Bundesliga goal of the season.

Aaron Martin equalized for Mainz after the break, where Delano Burgzorg came on as a substitute, just like Boëtius. Fifteen minutes before the end, Lucas Alario gave Leverkusen the lead again, but it did not yield anything to the number three in the Bundesliga. Mainz climbs to seventh place and holds hopes for European football.

Botman cannot beat Metz . with frustrated Lille

In France, defending champion Lille OSC disappointed once again. With Sven Botman in the defense for ninety minutes, the team did not go further than 0-0 at home against relegation candidate FC Metz.

Lille had a great advantage, but failed to convert that into many opportunities. In the final phase, frustration took over. Striker Edon Zhegrova was booked twice in a short time, first for a schwalbe and then for a serious foul. Trainer Jocelyn Gourvennec was also sent off with a red card.

It was already the ninth draw for Lille this season. The team occupies only ninth place in Ligue 1.
