King’s Day in Maastricht

André Rieu and Rowwen Hèze perform during the official celebration of King’s Day in Maastricht. The violinist plays halfway through the visit of the royal family on the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein. The Limburg band closes at the Vrijthof.

The royal family will also receive a musical welcome on the morning of 27 April, as became clear on Tuesday during the presentation of the official programme of King’s Day.

Three hundred members of different harmonies catch the bus containing the king and his family on the Sint Servaasbrug, the oldest bridge in the Netherlands.

There is also a role for musical actor Jon van Eerd. He teaches the members of the royal family what Maastricht speaks at the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein.

At the Vrijthof Rowwen Hèze performs a specially composed song and together with choir Mastreechter Staar the Wilhelmus is sung.

There is also a performance by DJs Lucas & Steve on the program. Both are also from Maastricht.
