Kremlin rejects US warning of Russian cyberattacks

The Russian government rejects US President Joe Biden’s warning that Russia can launch cyberattacks on companies, in revenge for the harsh Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine. According to the Kremlin, Russia does not engage in “banditry”.

Biden said Monday that there is intelligence information that Moscow is looking at ways to carry out cyberattacks on U.S. enterprises. He urged companies to immediately strengthen cyber defenses.

But according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, that is not the case. “The Russian Federation, unlike many Western countries, does not engage in banditry at the state level.”

Russia has often been accused of cyber attacks on the United States and other countries, but that is invariably denied by Moscow.

According to the White House, companies operating with key infrastructure are at risk of being targeted by cyberattacks.

The U.S. government says it has so far seen no signs of major Russian cyberattacks on infrastructure or government agencies.
