Although Lady Gaga is one of the most famous pop stars in the world, thirteen years after her breakthrough, she still has great difficulty with fame. She tells The Hollywood Reporter that sometimes it feels like she’s lost everything.

“I entered into an exchange when I pursued a career in this way. I didn’t know at the time what that exchange meant, but it just happened.

In many ways, it feels like I’ve lost everything,” she says.

The singer and actress used the pain of her personal life for her role in the new film House of Gucci. “I used the pain I felt when I was attacked as a young girl, when I was abandoned by people I loved, when I felt trapped in a world I didn’t love. I gave her that pain,” she refers to her character in the film, Patrizia Reggiani.

The actress, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, says that her co-star Salma Hayek and director Ridley Scott were worried about her on set. “We recorded a scene where I threw a burning candle around the room and I almost gave Salma a heart attack that day.

I collapsed myself when Patrizia collapsed. It wasn’t even a conscious choice that I empathized so much with the character.”

Scott intervened because he was concerned about the impact of the role on Lady Gaga. “He said he didn’t want me to be traumatized by this. I replied that I was anyway. I’ve been through this before and then I might as well use it for the film. He asked me not to do that to myself anymore.”

In House of Gucci, Lady Gaga plays the former wife of Maurizio Gucci who hired an assassin to kill her ex-husband. The film will be in theaters from November 25.
