Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to Ayrton Senna at the Brazilian GP

The British pilot Lewis Hamilton39 years old, paid an emotional tribute to three-time champion Ayrton Senna this Sunday morning (03) by driving the McLaren MP4/5Bthe car in which the Brazilian won his second title in 1990. The day was especially suitable for the tribute, as Senna's specialty was racing in the rain, and the capital of São Paulo has faced storms since Saturday (02).

Hamilton took several laps around the Interlagos circuit, stage of the Brazilian Formula 1 GP, and touched the hearts of spectators by imitating his idol's iconic gesture when raising the Brazilian flag.

Driver Ayrton Senna tragically passed away at the age of 34, in 1994, during the San Marino GP, after colliding head-on at the Tamburello curve. At the time, he was driving a Williams FW16, whose accident was caused by the steering rod breaking. Despite his short career, Senna was extremely successful, competing for four teams: Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams.

On the track, Senna had a brilliant career, starting in karting and reaching the pinnacle of Formula 1, where he achieved impressive numbers. In 162 GPs contested, he reached pole position on 65 occasions, won 41 victories and reached the podium in 80 races.

A declared fan of Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton has expressed his admiration for his childhood idol on several occasions. By moving the audience present, holding the Brazilian flag, the British pilot received a symbolic flag from gymnast Rebeca Andrade.

In an interview with Band after the tribute, Hamilton declared that Senna was the best of all time and that he felt deeply moved when reliving this experience, which made him reflect on past moments. He highlighted that being in front of the fans and in the rain was something really special.

Finally, Hamilton expressed his honor at receiving honorary citizenship and hopes his idol is proud of him. The Brit concluded by stating that this was the best lap of the weekend.
